This is a family recipe. I've seen basic recipes on here using pre-packaged dough, that were tasty, but this recipe is Amish, and over 80 Years old at least. My great grandmother used it and she passed away 6 years ago at the age of 96.It is time consuming but worth it!

  3. 1/4 cupsugar
  4. 3 3/4 cupflour
  5. 1 1/4 cupmilk
  6. 1/2 tspsalt
  7. 1/4 cupshortening
  8. 1 packagesactive dry yeast
  9. 1 largeegg
  10. bubble ring ingredients
  11. 2 tbspmelted butter
  12. 2 tbsplight corn syrup
  13. 1/2 cuppacked brown sugar
  14. 1/2 cupraisins
  15. 1/2 cupmaraschino cherries
  16. 1prepared sweet dough
  17. 1 cupcinnamon and sugar mixture

Cooking Instructions

    combine two cups of flour and yeast in a large bowl

  2. 2

    warm together: milk, sugar, shortening and salt. DO NOT BOIL! Warm until shortening melts. stir constantly

  3. 3

    add warm liquid to flour and yeast

  4. 4

    add egg

  5. 5

    with a mixer mix on low speed for 30 seconds, then on high for 3 minute.

    by hand stir in enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough

    turn out onto a slightly flowered pastry sheet, knead until smooth

    place the dough into a large bowl that has been greased, flip the dough over once so that the top side is greased also

    cover loosely and let rise until doubled approximately 2 hours

    once the dough is ready follow the next steps

    preheat oven to 400°F Fahrenheit

    mix together 2 tablespoons melted butter to tablespoons light corn syrup and 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

  13. 13

    spread the mixture in the bottom of a 10 inch greased tube pan

  14. 14

    sprinkle the raisins and cherries on top of the mixture

  15. 15

    roll the dough into 48 equally sized balls

  16. 16

    roll each ball in melted butter and then in cinnamon and sugar mixture

  17. 17

    arrange the dough balls in layers around the pan: let it rise briefly, until doubled.

    bake at 400°F in oven for 35 minutes

    quickly flip the bread on to a heat safe dish

  20. 20

    allow to completely cool before serving as sugars can cause burns to mouth
