Lentils or Daal are a huge part of Pakistan culture as it's easy to make and is a filling nutritious food
Steps
- 1
Take mash daal and chana daal and wash them and get rid of the water.
- 2
Put oil and onion in pressure cooker and cook till onion is golden
- 3
Then add chilli paste or you can also use (1/2 tablespoon ginger, 1/2 tablespoon garlic and 1 tablespoon chilli powder instead)
- 4
Add turmeric, coriander powder, 2 chillies and tomato and slight dash of water (so spices don't start burning)
- 5
Immediately add salt and chilli flakes as well
- 6
Fry till oil separates
- 7
Add 4 cups of water and add daal and put on pressure at medium flame for 8 minutes
- 8
After opening pressure, check if daal is soft. Check the bottom of the cooker if there is still more gravy. You can put pressure again for 1 more minute if it's needed. Be careful that you dont end up with daal that's too mushy!
- 9
Once ready, add fresh coriander leaves and one green chilli and masala powder for garnishing. Chana Mash Daal is ready!
