Haladi Patra Pitha/Turmeric Leaves covered Cakes

The turmeric leaves cake or pitha is a traditional recipe of my state Odisha. We celebrate Prathamastami in winter. In this pooja the oldest sibling of the family sits in front of the deities at home. The other members of the family worship them as the incarnation of Goddess Maa Lakshmi.

Steps
- 1
Idli batter is done one day earlier. I have taken urad dal and idli rice in 1:1 ratio. Tha batter should be fermented.
- 2
Mix the stuffing ingredients with clean hand or spoon.
- 3
Cut a single turmeric leaf into two part horizontally.
- 4
Place 1/2 cup of batter on each half turmeric leaf. Place stuffing at the middle of batter on leaf.
- 5
Longitudinally press the leaf with both palms. Then place in idli maker or steamer, with boiling water.
- 6
Stem for 10 minutes. When you want to have the pitha, remove the leaf. The taste is best and the flavour is mind blowing.
