Ingredients

4 servings
  • 1 lbground beef
  • 1big onion (red or yellow)
  • Halfa red bell pepper (optional)
  • 1 tablespoonolive oil
  • 2 teaspoongaram masala
  • 1 teaspooncumin powder
  • 1 teaspoonginger
  • 1 teaspoonbrown sugar
  • 1 teaspoondried thyme
  • 1 teaspoondried parsley
  • 2 teaspoonsdried basil
  • 2 teaspoonssalt
  • 1 teaspoonpepper
  • 1 teaspooncrushed red pepper
  • 1 tspgarlic powder (optional)
  • Chopped green onions (garnish)
  • Cracked Wheat
  • 2 cupscracked wheat (bulgur) in larger grain
  • 4 cupswater

Steps

  1. 1

    Add the olive oil to a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef. Break the beef lump into smaller pieces using a spatula, and let it brown a bit

  2. 2

    Add remaining dry ingredients (garam masala, cumin, ginger, thyme, basil, brown sugar, parsley,salt, pepper, garlic and crushed red pepper) and stir well

  3. 3

    Add chopped onions (I prefer to chop them in long slivers), and chopped red bell pepper

  4. 4

    Cook for another 5 minutes then set aside

  5. 5

    For Cracked wheat:
    Add cracked wheat in water, and cook on medium high heat until water boils

  6. 6

    Cover and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes

  7. 7

    Serve the beef and cracked wheat together and garnish with chopped green onions
