Ingredients

Time: 20 minutes to prepare, 20 minutes to bake
Makes 12 biscuits
  1. 2 1/2 cupsall-purpose flour, sifted (310 grams / 11 oz)
  2. 1 tablespoongranulated sugar
  3. 1 tablespoonbaking powder
  4. 1 teaspoonsalt
  5. 1/2 teaspoongarlic powder
  6. 1/2 cupunsalted butter (113 grams / 8 tablespoons)
  7. 1/2 cupgreen onions, thinly sliced
  8. 3/4 cupcold milk

Steps

Time: 20 minutes to prepare, 20 minutes to bake

    In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients together.

    Cut the butter into the flour with your fingers until the mixture forms small pea-sized crumbs.

  3. 3

    Mix the green onions into the flour mixture.

  4. 4

    Gradually add the milk and mix just until a dough forms. Only add enough milk to bring the dough together; you may have a little milk left over.

  5. 5

    Place the dough in the refrigerator to rest for 20 minutes.

  6. 6

    Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the dough to about 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick.

  7. 7

    Use a 2 1/2 inch (6.5 cm) biscuit cutter to cut circles from the dough and place them on a baking sheet greased with a little butter or lined with parchment paper. You should get about 8 thick biscuits or 12 thinner ones.

    Melt a little butter and brush it over the tops of the biscuits. Preheat the oven to 440°F (226°C).

    Bake the biscuits for 18 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.

    Serve hot.
