Ingredients

Serves 2-3 servings
  1. 6 1/3 cupswater (about 1,500 ml)
  2. 2 tablespoonssake
  3. 3 packsdashi pack
  4. 1 tablespoonor granulated dashi
  5. 2 tablespoonssoy sauce
  6. 2 tablespoonssugar
  7. 1 1/2 teaspoonssalt

Steps

    This time, we'll use dashi packs like these to make the broth. If you don't have them at home, granulated dashi is fine.

    First, bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, add the sake and dashi packs.

    After about 5 minutes, the broth will be ready.

    Remove the dashi packs and add sugar, soy sauce, and salt. If using granulated dashi, use less salt.

    Prepare your favorite vegetables and meat.

    Before shabu-shabu, pour the broth into a bowl to use as a dipping sauce.

    Enjoy with vegetables! The broth is so flavorful that you won't need ponzu or sesame sauce.
