Purple Barley drink

Nostalgic childhood drink make from pearl barley & a purple colour plant called Moses in a boat or Moses in the cradle.
My mum used to make this during hot weather.
We would pluck the leaves from the potted plants outside the house.
And I would be amazed how the purple leaves can turn the water into a nice purple tinge.
You can add a special purple cane too to achieve a more intense purple colour but I could not find it today.
I called it purple drink.

Steps
- 1
Wash the barley grains. (I keep the water for watering plants or washing the face!!!)
- 2
Cut the leaves into pieces. Discard the brown parts (bottom of the leaves).
- 3
Put the leaves, barley and water into a pot with the water. Boil for ~ 1h. Remove the scum. Off fire, add sugar and stir till all the sugar has dissolved.
- 4
Serve hot or keep in the fridge after it has cooled down.
