Gather all the ingredients.

Use a 9-inch (22 cm) flan mold. Pour the caramel sauce evenly over the bottom and sides of the mold. Set aside.

From the total milk, set aside about 3/4 cup (200 ml) in a mug and dissolve the cornstarch completely. Set aside.

In a saucepan, add the remaining milk, sugar, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly so the milk doesn't stick to the bottom.

When it starts to boil, add the reserved milk with the dissolved cornstarch. Stir constantly; you'll notice it thickens quickly. Let it cook for another 2 minutes.

Pour the mixture into the flan mold.

Cover with plastic wrap, making sure it touches the entire surface to prevent a skin from forming. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 6 hours (I left it overnight).

Unmold the flan (it comes out easily—just flip it and it will release from the mold).
