Ingredients

4 People
  • 3/4 CupMix of 5 Dals (Moong dal ( Green Gram), Toor Dal, Masoor Dal, Urad dal & Gram dal )
  • 1Tomato
  • 1Large Onion
  • 3-4Red Chillies Dry
  • 1,1/2 tspGinger Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 tbspRed Chilli Powder
  • 1 tspCoriander Powder
  • 1/2 tspTurmeric a Powder
  • 1/4+ 1/4 tspAsafetida
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • For seasoning (Tadka)
  • As required Oil
  • 1 tspMustard
  • 1 tspCumin
  • As required Curry leaves
  • 2/3Cardamom
  • 1Cinnamon
  • 3/4Cloves
  • 1Bay leaf
  • As requiredCilantro for garnishing

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash with water and soak the dals in water for 2/3 hrs. Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles, with Turmeric powder and Asafetida. Keep aside. Mash the Dal partially.

    Heat oil a Kadai. Add Mustard (splutter), Cumin, Curry leaves, Clove etc., (mentioned for Tadka), Dry red Chillies & sauté. Add the Onions and sauté till translucent. Add Ginger garlic paste and sauté till raw smell is gone.

    Add chopped Tomato and sauté till mushy. Add Red Chilli powder, Turmeric Powder, Coriander Powder, Asafetida and mix well.

    Add the Cooked dal with water (to desired consistency) along with Salt to taste and Garam Masala. Cook for another 2-3 minutes. Transfer to serving bowl and Garnish with finely chopped Cilantro. Serve hot with Indian breads or with Rice.
