Bundelkhandi jawar maheri

Maheri was once eaten in villages as breakfast. It is prepared with fresh buttermilk stirred vigorously to give it a smooth consistency. Maheri can be prepared with wheat, millet or broken rice. Im making millet maheri. The method is same for maheri made from other ingredients.

Soak jowar for 5-6 hours.

Boil jowar in cooker adding salt and water till it softens. It will take about a half-hour. Drain water and keep the water aside. Grind jawar coarsely in a grinder.

In wok heat 1 tsp ghee, add boiled jawar dalia and cook for 2 or 3 minutes. Now add water which we drained from jawar. Boil it in high flame, now add buttermilk and allow it to boil and you have to stir it continuously. Decrease flame at medium flame and add salt and ginger garlic paste. cook it until meheri thickens.

At last add black pepper powder and green coriander leaves, switch off the flame.Serve it hot.
