Boiled Custard (a creamy vanilla Christmas drink)

Nothing in my world says the upcoming holidays like boiled custard. My mom made it every year when we decorated our Christmas tree or made Christmas cookies. I like mine straight up vanilla but some like a little nutmeg or cinnamon added in. I love it cold in the morning. #mycookbook

Steps
- 1
Starting in a big, COLD pot, pour in your milk and beat the yolks, 1 cup of sugar, vanilla, salt and cornstarch into the milk until well combined. Turn the heat on to medium-med/high heat and stir constantly until it comes to a boil. You have to babysit this but it’s worth it. Once it boils pull it off the heat. It’ll overflow really quick if you don’t take it off soon enough. Let it boil then pull it off.
- 2
Beat your egg whites with 1 tsp cream of tartar and 1/3 cup sugar to a soft peak and temper them with a little of the hot custard, then pour them into the pot and whisk well.
- 3
Ladle some Into a cup and enjoy! Spike it with rumchata if you’re feeling frisky!!
