Steps

  1. 1

Soak the chickpeas in a large bowl overnight. Water should be hot and about 3 inch in depth. Check water after few hours as chickpeas will triple in size.
Drain the chickpeas. In a food processor add chickpeas and the rest of the ingredients apart from bread crumbs and grind coarsely. The mixture should not be ground to fine paste.

Add the breadcrumbs and mix well.
Roll a small amount of the mixture into a lemon sized ball or a small patty with your hands. The mixture should hold together nicely and not fall apart. Repeat for the rest of the batter. You can also use a small ice-cream scoop to get equal size ball.

In a frying pan add oil for frying and heat the oil on medium heat. Fry the falafel until golden brown. Place a kitchen towel on a plate and place the fried falafel on it to remove excess oil. Sprinkle little bit of salt and chilli flakes while hot. Serve with mayonnaise and salad.

Hi all, my name is Rekha. I am Indian by birth, born in Uganda, East Africa, I now live in Wilby, Northamptonshire/England.I retired at the age of 60 due to severe arthritis. I am married, a mother and grandmother.I learnt to cook from my parents at a very young age of seven. I started to cook simple dishes for the family and gradually learnt how to cook. My mum use to cook at our shop where we sold Indian sweets and savouries. I have learnt a lot from my mum. I started cooking fusion dishes and learning from others. My strong point is making sweet dishes and innovating new dishes. I can improvise and be creative in leftover dishes.I love being on Cookpad because I can share and learn new recipes. I have also made a lot of friends.
