Using left-over cooked rice, I often make Onigiri. For seasoning, I use only Salt. Sometimes I grill them after brushing with some mixture of Soy Sauce and Mirin and make the outside slightly burnt. It is yummy! And this one with Miso Sauce is even yummier!

Ingredients

6 to 8 Onigiri (Rice Balls)
  • 500-600 gCooked Rice (Japanese Short Grain Rice)
  • Salt
  • 1 tablespoonMiso
  • 1/2 tablespoonMirin
  • 1/2-1 teaspoonSugar
  • *Optional Ingredients: Sesame Seeds, finely chopped Spring Onion, Ginger, Shiso, Basil, etc
  • Sesame Oil

Steps

  1. 1

    In a small bowl, mix Miso, Mirin and Sugar (and optional other ingredients) to make miso sauce.

  2. 2

    Make Onigiri. Find my ‘Triangular Onirigi’ recipe at https://cookpad.wasmer.app/uk/recipes/7059892-triangular-onigiri

  3. 3

    Spread some miso sauce on one side of each Onigiri.

  4. 4

    Line a baking tray with aluminium foil and brush the foil lightly with Sesame Oil. Place Onigiri on the foil and grill until the miso sauce is slightly burnt.
