Steps

10 mins
  1. 1

Wash the fish/fillet thoroughly until the water runs clear. Apply little sea salt, lime and turmeric to the washed slices and keep them aside for a few minutes. This will take away the fishy smell from the fish.

  2. 2

Mix all the ingredients of the marinade well with a spoonful of oil. Add the chilies and salt as per your taste.

  3. 3

Rub the marinade all over the fillets/slices to ensure proper application from all sides. Keep these slices for 2-5 minutes for the masala to release the flavour into the fish.

  4. 4

Keep a frying pan with 2-3 spoons of oil for heating on the stove.

  5. 5

Meanwhile, coat the slices of fish in the rava mix which is prepared with a pinch of red chilli powder and salt and some rice flour added to the rava.

  6. 6

Shallow fry the fillet/fish slices in the pan From both sides until the fish is nicely cooked and tender and the coating is crisp enough for a crunch. Do not fry on high flame since the coating can burn leaving the fish uncooked.

  7. 7

That’s it, your Maharashtrian Rava fish fry is ready to be served with a slice of lime and onion rings, or even a tamarind or pudina chutney.

  8. 8

This can be eaten with chapati, hot dal and rice or just as is which is how I like my fish 🐟
