Being my favourite childhood memory, Thean Mittai is a classic South Indian treat. One bite of this will take you straight back to those good old days

Soak Raw Rice and Urad Dal for at least 4 hours and grind them to a fine paste

Add a pinch of salt and half teaspoon of baking powder to the batter

Take a kadai and pour necessary amount of oil to make the Mittai balls
- 4
Using your hand or a spoon make tiny balls out of the batter and deep fry them until light brown.

Ensure that the balls are small so that when it's soaks in the sugar syrup the size will grow.

In a sauce pan add two cups of sugar and one cup of water and bring it to boil to a syrupy consistency.

Add fried balls in the sugar syrup and let it show for about 3 hours

In a dry mixie jar finely powder the remaining one cup of sugar

The Mittai would have grown in size after soaking in all the sugar syrup. Now dust them off with the powdered sugar.

Voila! Your Thaen Mittai is ready!!
