Steps
- 1
Rinse the dal with water a couple of times
- 2
Soaks the dal in one cup of water for exactly 2 hours. Do not exceed the time.
- 3
After two hours, drain the dal well so that no water is left behind and grind to a coarse paste without adding water. A few whole dals should be left. This helps with the texture
- 4
To this mixture add chopped onion, ginger, coriander leaves, curry leaves, chopped green chilli and salt to taste. You can also add red chilli powder of required. I did not add in mine
- 5
Mix well so everything is combined. Taste the mixture and add salt or chilli powder of needed.
- 6
Divide the mixture into small portions and flatten then slightly by hand or using banana leaves
- 7
Heat oil and in a pan
- 8
Fry the shaped vadas over medium heat till golden brown or till cooked.
- 9
Serve hot with peanut or coconut chutney.
