Steps
- 1
Prepare the ingredients. Cut a piece of parchment paper to fit your steamer.
- 2
Peel the taro and shred it or grate it. For this recipe, use about 470 grams (about 1 pound) of shredded taro.
- 3
Except for the water, mix the flours, seasonings, and all other ingredients together. Make sure the taro shreds are evenly coated with the flour mixture.
- 4
After mixing, sprinkle 1 tablespoon of water over the taro shreds to keep them moist and coated.
- 5
Shape the taro mixture into balls and place each one on the prepared parchment paper.
- 6
Place the prepared taro balls onto a steaming tray.
- 7
Add 1 cup of water (about 240 ml) to the outer pot of an electric steamer. Place the steaming tray on the rack and start steaming the taro cakes.
- 8
When the steamer switches off, leave the lid on and let the cakes sit for another 10 minutes to ensure the taro is fully cooked.
- 9
Transfer the steamed taro cakes to a wire rack to cool and let the steam escape.
- 10
Enjoy your fragrant and chewy taro shredded cakes!
- 11
For extra flavor, drizzle with some braised pork sauce.
- 12
Tip:
* You can use all sweet potato starch or substitute with cornstarch if you prefer.
