Family recipe , I used to get this as a gift every Christmas from my Grandma, every once in awhile I will make these for my kids for Christmas. They are very easy and very good. ( my grandma use to use gulf wax to make them shine, I dont use that in mine.) I wish I had my grandma recipe for this but I dont hers made so much I know it was like 16 oz of peanut butter 1 bag of confectioners sugar and the wax for the chocolate thats all I remember.

Steps

  1. 1

Line a large tray or baking sheet with wax paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, peanut butter, vanilla extract and butter, stirring until well blended.

  3. 3

Roll the peanut butter mixture into 1-inch balls, and place the balls on a wax paper-lined baking sheet.

  4. 4

Press a toothpick into the top of each ball (to be used later as the handle for dipping) and chill in freezer until firm, about 30 minutes.(I just let my dough refrigerate overnight and put Toothpick in as I’m dipping them)

  5. 5

Melt chocolate chips in microwave (about 1 minute).

  6. 6

Using the toothpick as a handle, dip each peanut butter ball in chocolate.

  7. 7

Leave a small portion of peanut butter showing at the top to make them look like Buckeyes.

  8. 8

Place chocolate covered peanut butter balls on wax paper and remove the toothpick.

  9. 9

Once the peanut butter has softened, you can use a finger to smooth over the hole from the toothpick

  10. 10

Refrigerate, until chocolate is set. Store in refrigerator until eating or gifting.
