Ingredients

Makes about 5 bottles
  • 4 quartsmilk (about 3.8 liters)
  • 6large cinnamon sticks
  • 12whole cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoonground nutmeg
  • 3 cupsgranulated sugar, or to taste (about 600 grams)
  • 8heaping tablespoons instant coffee (leveled)
  • 1 bottle(about 900 ml) aguardiente (or clear brandy)
  • 3 teaspoonsvanilla extract
  • 3/4 cupaged golden rum (Bacardi or similar) (about 180 ml)

Steps

    Pour the milk into a pot. Add and mix in the cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, and sugar. Heat the milk, stirring occasionally to prevent it from burning on the bottom. When the milk is just about to boil, remove it from the heat so it doesn’t boil over. Milk boils at just over 212°F (100°C).

    Add the instant coffee and stir. Let cool, then strain.

    Add the aguardiente and rum.

    Pour into bottles, place a cinnamon stick in each bottle, and refrigerate.
