Cola de Mono (Jon Style)

Every year in November, I start making Cola de Mono because I use it from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Our kids love it, so it’s a must-have. I like to add aged rum to Cola de Mono—I love the flavor it gives.

Steps
- 1
Pour the milk into a pot. Add and mix in the cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, and sugar. Heat the milk, stirring occasionally to prevent it from burning on the bottom. When the milk is just about to boil, remove it from the heat so it doesn’t boil over. Milk boils at just over 212°F (100°C).
- 2
Add the instant coffee and stir. Let cool, then strain.
- 3
Add the aguardiente and rum.
- 4
Pour into bottles, place a cinnamon stick in each bottle, and refrigerate.
