Soak the lentils for 1 hour before cooking.

Fry the onion in the oil until golden.

Drain the lentils and sauté them with the onion in the oil.

Add the washed rice, then sauté with the lentils and onion. Add the salt, cumin, and water.

Cook over high heat until the rice and lentils absorb all the water.

Reduce the heat to very low, cover, and cook until done. Serve with fried onions on top.
