Apple Pie Sticks

You can easily make this by just using regular puff pastry sheets, but modifying their shape makes them a lot easier to enjoy! I wanted to make something that was easy to eat and that children could hold in their hands without any hassle.

Be careful not to overfill the dough with the filling (I accidentally did this -- lol) because this can make the folding / wrapping process a lot more difficult. As for when you're cutting the pastry sheets, make sure to cut them gently without touching them too much. They'll puff up more evenly that way. Remember that there is egg yolk coated on the inside, so you don't have to overdo it with the fork! Recipe by Toiroiro

Steps

  1. 1

Make"Sweetly Simmered Apples." I used Jonathan apples sliced into wedges to make this.

  2. 2

Take the puff pastry dough and cut it cross-wise into 3 pieces. Take the right half and fold it in half. Then using a scraper or a kitchen knife, cut notches into it down the fold.

  3. 3

Line the apple filling down the center of the left side. Then on the left edge, coat the dough with egg yolk.

  4. 4

Fold the dough in half, bringing the right edge down on the left side coated with yolk. With a fork, seal the edge by gently pushing down.

  5. 5

Coat the top with egg once again, and then, bake them for 20 minutes at 400℉ (200℃) and they are done!

  6. 6

You can also make it shaped like this. You do it by going from top to bottom. The filling goes on the bottom and the upper half has an X mark cut into it.

  7. 7

Fold it in half and then again with a fork, seal it by gently pushing down. Once again, coat with egg yolk, and bake for 20 minutes at 400℉ (200℃) and it's done!

  8. 8

Doesn't the small square look adorable? You can kind of see the apples through the x-mark.

  9. 9

If you cool the filling thoroughly, it'll be easier to handle, and you'll be able to fit more of it in without ruining the shape of the pastry!
