Soak the whole lentils and then pressure cook them for 5 to 6 whistles.

Heat oil in a pan.
Add finely chopped onion and sauté it on a low flame until translucent.
Then add tomato and mix well. - 3
Cover the pan and cook for 5 minutes.
Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, 1 teaspoon red chilli powder, ginger-green chilli-garlic paste, misal masala, and salt. - 4
Mix well and cook for few seconds.
Then add water and mix well. Cover it with a lid and cook it for 7 to 10 minutes. Do check in between and add water if required.
Once the oil leaves from the sides and the mix of ingredients turns into a smooth gravy, add boiled whole lentils. - 5
Mix well and cook. Add coriander leaves. If required, add water to adjust the consistency. Cook it for couple of minutes then turn off the gas. Transfer to a serving bowl.

Now, heat butter in a tadka pan. Melt the butter and then add 1 teaspoon red chilli powder. Mix well and pour this tadka over the misal.
