Easy Hayashi Rice with Beef & Onion

I fondly recall my mother often making this dish. No roux is needed to make this hayashi rice. My children also love it. This is our family's version of hayashi rice!
Cheap meat that's on sale is fine.
When first adding the water, it will turn white-ish, but will soon become thick, so don't worry! Recipe by Minnanoanego

Steps
- 1
Thinly slice the onions.
- 2
Cut the beef into bite-sized pieces.
- 3
Add a little bit of oil to the frying pan and lightly cook the onion.
- 4
Once the onion starts to brown, add the beef.
- 5
When the beef browns completely, add the water, ketchup, tonkatsu sauce, and sugar.
- 6
Stir until the liquid evaporates enough that you can see the bottom of the pan when mixing the sauce, and then it's done. Pour it over rice and enjoy!
