The rice-urad dal batter is combined with a tempering which is made of mustard seeds, onion, green chillies, curry leaves and freshly grated coconut and then small balls of this batter are deep fried.
Steps
- 1
In a large bowl, add raw rice and urad dal. Soak in water for one hour. After an hour drain out the water. Rinse it well with fresh water and again drain out all the water. Transfer it to a mixer. Add little water at a time and grind it to a thick smooth paste. Transfer the paste to a mixing bowl. Add salt and mix it well. The batter should be thick and flowing. Set it aside.
- 2
Heat oil in a tadka pan. Add mustard seeds and allow it to crackle. Add the chopped green chillies and curry leaves and saute quickly for few seconds.
