Use a pressure cooker to save time and energy. Rinse the red beans and black rice, then place them in a 4-liter (or similar size) pressure cooker. Add 12 3/4 cups water (about 3000 ml), or adjust to your cooker’s maximum fill line or your preference.

Cook according to your pressure cooker’s instructions. For this brand, bring to a boil for 15 minutes, then reduce to low heat for another 15 minutes before turning off the heat.

After releasing the pressure, open the lid and stir in the dark brown sugar while the soup is hot. (If you prefer a sweeter soup, you can add more brown sugar to taste.)

This soup is great as a warm dinner after exercise on a cold day.
Once cooled, portion the soup into heat-safe, airtight containers. Reheat in a rice cooker or on the stove whenever you want to enjoy it hot.
