In a skillet, sauté garlic in olive oil. Add the tomato purée, salt, a pinch of sugar to taste, and basil. Simmer over low heat until the sauce is ready, then remove the garlic.

Bring a pot of water to a boil, add salt, and cook the gnocchi until they float to the surface and are done.

Add the cooked gnocchi to the sauce. Meanwhile, cut the cheese into cubes.

Transfer all the gnocchi to a baking dish. Add the cubed cheese and grated cheese on top, then bake until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
