A classic Swedish shrimp salad, better known as Skagenröra or Skagen Salad in Sweden. This salad is on the menu at almost every restaurant in Sweden! It's easy to make and can be enjoyed for lunch, dinner, or even as a snack. You can also serve it as an open-faced sandwich, known as räksmörgås.
The key to this recipe is using FRESH ingredients, including fresh dill, crisp lettuce, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and, if you choose to serve it as a sandwich, fresh bread!
Many traditional shrimp salad recipes use only mayonnaise and not crème fraîche. Crème fraîche is a type of thick, rich cream that's a bit less tangy than sour cream.

Thaw the shrimp, rinse them, and let them drain in a colander. Once drained, place them in a bowl with the lemon juice.

In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, crème fraîche or sour cream or yogurt, shallot, mustard, and dill. Gently fold in the shrimp. Season with salt and pepper to taste (you may not need extra salt depending on how salty the shrimp are). Chill for at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours before serving.

Variations:
Lemon: Add 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest to the dressing.
Spicy: Add Tabasco sauce, freshly grated horseradish, or prepared horseradish to the dressing to taste.
