Rinse asparagus and discard the tough bottom ends. Cut on the diagonal into 1 inch pieces.

Full a saucepan half way with water and bring to a boil. Add the asparagus then reduce heat slightly to a simmer. Simmer asparagus 2-3 minutes. Drain.

While the asparagus pieces are hot, toss them in a bowl with the olive oil, lemon zest, salt and pepper to taste.
