Salted Edamame (With Boiling Tips)

Thank you for making this recipe popular on 2014/06/16! My edamame is well-seasoned with salt. You can adjust the saltiness to your liking when you eat it. How this recipe came about: In summer, edamame is a popular snack, but I often find it's not salty enough. I included a way to eat it so anyone can enjoy their preferred level of saltiness.

Steps

  1. 1

Place the edamame in a pot and sprinkle with the heaping teaspoon of salt for rubbing. Rub the pods well, then rinse them 2–3 times with water to remove excess salt. Add fresh water to the pot and set it over heat.

  2. 2

Once the water boils, reduce to medium heat and keep an eye on it. When you see 2 or 3 pods pop open, remove the pot from the heat and drain the edamame in a colander (over the sink).

  3. 3

Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of salt evenly over the surface of the edamame in the colander. Shake the colander up and down to toss the edamame and distribute the salt.

  4. 4

Once the edamame on the bottom comes to the top, sprinkle another teaspoon of salt evenly and shake the colander again. You're done! (A lot of the salt will fall off, so do this over the sink.)

  5. 5

The salt stays on the pods. If you want less salt, avoid licking the pods as you eat. If you like it saltier, try licking the pods as you eat.
