Crumble the kunafa pastry and rub it with the butter, food coloring, and powdered sugar. Sprinkle with rose water.

Combine all the filling ingredients except the cream and cheese in a saucepan. Cook over heat, stirring, until thickened. Remove from heat, then add the cream and cheese.

Arrange the kunafa pastry in a rectangle (as shown in the picture) and spread the filling on top (as shown in the picture).

Sprinkle nuts over the filling.

Roll up the kunafa pastry tightly, like a roll.

Place the roll in the oven. Once baked, cut it into pieces and drizzle with sugar syrup (also called qater or sharbat).
