Smear the katla fish pieces with salt and turmeric and keep aside.

Heat mustard oil in a pan.

Once hot add the marinated katla fish pieces and fry till golden.

Now in the same oil add the sugar. Once it starts caramelizing add the bay leaves and the roughly crushed garam masala.

Now add the sliced onions and fry.

Keep frying till oil separates from the pan.

Once the sliced onions starts to change colour add the onion paste.

Fry till oil separates from the pan.

Now add the ginger paste and the green chilli paste.

Now make a mixture with red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder with 2 tbsp of water and add it to the kadai.

Now whisk the curd, add it and cook till oil separates.

Now add salt and little water and bring to a boil.

Once it comes to a boil, add the fried katla fish pieces and simmer for 10 minutes.

After 20 minutes remove from the stove and serve hot with steamed white rice.
