Easy Loukoumades 🤍

In a small bowl, add a little of the lukewarm water, then add the yeast and honey (or sugar). Stir and let it sit for 10 minutes until it becomes foamy.

In a large bowl, pour in the yeast mixture and the remaining lukewarm water. Stir to combine.

Gradually add flour, mixing with a fork, until you have a stretchy dough. It should not be too runny or too stiff, and it shouldn't break apart easily when pulled.

Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, until it doubles in size.

Once the dough has doubled, pour the oil into a deep, preferably small, pot and heat it up.
There should be enough oil so you can fully submerge and press down the loukoumades.
(A small pot helps you use less oil.) - 6
When the oil is hot, use a spoon to scoop a little dough, and with another spoon, drop the dough balls one by one into the oil until the pot is full.
It's best to do this quickly so some loukoumades don't cook faster than others.
To keep the dough from sticking to the spoons, keep a small bowl of water nearby to dip the spoons in. - 7
Gently press and stir the loukoumades. Once they turn golden brown, remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a baking sheet or glass dish lined with 2-3 layers of paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Your loukoumades are ready! Serve them with honey, chocolate hazelnut spread, or any topping you like.
