Stuffed Cabbage Rolls in Tomato Sauce

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls in Tomato Sauce
Steps
- 1
First, cut out the thick stem from the cabbage and boil the cabbage until it softens enough so the leaves can be easily removed for rolling.
- 2
In a bowl, combine all the filling ingredients and mix well.
- 3
Once the cabbage is boiled, place it in a colander and start removing the leaves.
- 4
Meanwhile, in a small pot, heat olive oil and sauté the onion and carrot. Then add the crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, cinnamon, and about 3 cups of water.
- 5
Place about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the meat filling onto each cabbage leaf and roll them up tightly to form rolls.
- 6
In a large pot, preferably with a thick bottom, line the bottom with any leftover cabbage leaves or small pieces that couldn't be used for rolling.
- 7
Place the cabbage rolls in the pot.
- 8
Pour the sauce you prepared over the rolls and cover them with a plate to keep them from floating and falling apart.
- 9
Turn the heat to high, and once it starts to boil, reduce to medium-low and let it simmer for about 40 minutes.
