Ingredients

85–90 servings
  • 2.2–3.3 pounds (1–1.5 kg) all-purpose flour
  • 2 cupssunflower oil (480 ml)
  • 1 cupolive oil (240 ml)
  • 1 cupsugar (200 grams)
  • 1 teaspoonbaking soda
  • 2 teaspoonsground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoonground cloves
  • 1 cuporange juice (240 ml)
  • 1 packetbaking powder (about 0.35 oz or 10 grams)
  • 1espresso cup brandy (about 2 oz or 60 ml)
  • For the syrup
  • 3 cupswater (720 ml)
  • 3 cupssugar (600 grams)
  • 1 cuphoney (340 grams)
  • 2cinnamon sticks
  • 6whole cloves
  • Peel from 1 orange
  • Chopped walnuts for sprinkling

Steps

    Mix all the ingredients except the baking soda, orange juice, and flour.

  2. 2

    Dissolve the baking soda in the orange juice, then add it to the mixture.

  3. 3

    Gradually add as much flour as needed to form a soft dough.

  4. 4

    Shape the dough into cookies about 1 oz (30 grams) each.

  5. 5

    Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 minutes.

  6. 6

    Boil the syrup ingredients together, then dip the cooled cookies into the hot syrup.

  7. 7

    Sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
