Stuffed dates with feta cheese

Serving dates or khajur at the iftar table to break the fast is a religious custom during Ramadan. The scrumptious dates (or khajur in Urdu, tamr in Arabic) are integral to the Muslims.
Although dates are a scrumptious snack on their own, there are a lot of ways to further enhance the flavour of dates and make delicious desserts or dishes out of them. Eating dates everyday can be boring so here is a simple recipe that you can add to your iftar table.
Feta stuffed dates topped with candid pecans are exotic. Savoury stuffed dates with Feta cheese is one of the best snackable appetizers there is - and all you need is 5 minutes to make them and 15 to bake.
This dessert is extremely easy to make yet it tastes like something exotic and expensive. To make this dessert, one has to simply cut the date in half and take the seed out of it. Now the date must be filled with feta cheese and baked. The hot dates are then topped with candid pecans and served with a drizzle of honey.
The candied pecans are a game changer. Use them for salads, snacks, and cheeseboards. They are perfectly sweet and a little bit salty, plus the added cinnamon and vanilla, makes them extra delicious.
It is completely possible to prepare the filled dates in advance and then simply place them in the oven fifteen minutes prior to serving. Although they can be made entirely in advance and served cold or reheated, they will not taste as well as they will be served fresh out of the oven.

Steps

25minutes
  1. 1

Preheat oven 440 F/225 C and place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet.

  2. 2

Carefully remove the pit from the dates - taking care not to break the date apart.

  3. 3

Place them on the parchment paper and stuff in a piece of Feta cheese in each of the dates, facing up.

  4. 4

Bake for 15 minutes or until cheese has softened and has a nice colour.

  5. 5

While the dates are in the oven, make the candied pecans lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  6. 6

Add the sugar, cinnamon, salt, vanilla, and water, to a medium skillet.

  7. 7

Place the skillet over medium heat and cook, stirring often, until the sugar melts into a bubbling sauce, about 1 minute.

  8. 8

Stir in the pecans so that the sugar sauce coats them.

  9. 9

Cook, stirring the entire time, until the pecans look candied and smell nutty, 2 to 3 minutes.

  10. 10

Transfer the candied pecans to the prepared baking sheet and spread them out in one layer..

  11. 11

Allow the pecans to cool down and break them up before placing on top of the baked dates
