Use shrimp that are peeled and deveined. Rinse and pat dry with a paper towel. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then lightly coat with flour.

In a bowl, mix the flour, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and baking powder. Add the egg and gradually pour in the beer, mixing until you get a slightly thick batter.

Heat the 1 1/2 cups of oil over medium heat in a wide pot. Drop a little batter into the oil to test if it's ready—the batter should float almost immediately.

Using tongs, dip each shrimp into the batter, then carefully place it in the hot oil. Turn the shrimp when golden brown, then remove and drain on a plate lined with paper towels.

Serve and enjoy with warm tortillas, shredded cabbage, chipotle mayo, and lime wedges!
