This recipe brings back so many memories of my grandma Perla—arriving at her house and smelling this delicious dish baking in the oven. My mom taught me how to make it, and now I'm sharing the steps with you so you can try it and let me know what you think!
Steps
- 1
Heat the butter in a skillet. Add the onion, garlic, celery, carrot, and herbs. Sauté until softened.
- 2
Grease a glass baking dish with butter, or line it with aluminum foil if you prefer. In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with the eggs and a splash of milk to moisten.
- 3
Mix well, then add the sautéed vegetables from the skillet. Stir with a spoon, then add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard.
- 4
Add the ground beef and ground bacon. Mix everything together with your hands until well combined.
- 5
Press the mixture firmly into the baking dish. If you like, top with slices of smoked bacon or a layer of breadcrumbs for a crispy crust. Bake the meatloaf at 480°F (250°C) for 40 minutes. Enjoy its unique flavor!
