This is the first time I have made this recipe and it turned out pretty good. This will become a repeat in my household. This dessert is pure comfort dessert.

This is the first time I have made this recipe and it turned out pretty good. This will become a repeat in my household. This dessert is pure comfort dessert.

In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.

Cut in the shortening with a pastry cutter or two knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add in the milk and knead the dough till it becomes soft.

Divide the dough into 8 into parts/balls and keep aside.

In a saucepan bring the blueberries, water and sugar to a boil. Make sure that the saucepan has a matching lid as the dumplings need to be steamed.

Reduce the heat and put the dumplings slowly into the blueberry sauce one at a time. Do not coat/stir the dumplings with the sauce. Cover the saucepan with the lid so that the steam does not escape.

Keep the heat on low and let the blueberries simmer while the dumplings will get cooked in the steam for about 15 mins.

Tip: While the dumplings are steaming do not keep opening the lid and letting the steam out. After 15 mins the dumplings will have a steamed bread like texture. The same recipe can be made with strawberries, raspberries and apples.

Serve warm with whipped cream
