Ingredients

  • 1 cupWhole wheat flour
  • 2 cupsAll-purpose flour
  • 2 tspsInstant dry yeast
  • 1 tspSugar
  • 1 tspSalt
  • 2 tbspsOlive oil
  • ½ cupWater (warm)  + for kneading

Steps

  1. 1

    In a bowl, mix yeast and sugar, add warm water and leave it for few minutes till it becomes frothy

  2. 2

    In a large bowl, mix both the flours, salt

  3. 3

    Make well in center, add oil and yeast mixture

  4. 4

    Mix well, add little water at a time and knead for few minutes to form a soft dough

  5. 5

    Oil the dough and place it in oiled bowl, cover it with cling wrap and keep it in warm place for an hour or till it doubles in size

  6. 6

    Gently deflate dough, knead it for 2 minutes

  7. 7

    Divide the dough into 14-15 equal balls

  8. 8

    Preheat the oven at 450 degrees F

  9. 9

    Roll out each ball very gently into 5-6 inch disc

  10. 10

    Place the rolled pitas on baking sheet and bake for 3-4 minutes, till its puffs up like balloon

  11. 11

    Flip and bake for another 1-2 minutes

  12. 12

    Best when eaten straight from oven, but can also be stored in airtight wrap for days
