Ingredients

  • 2 ½ CupsBasmati Rice
  • 1 ½ TablespoonsChanna Dal (soaked in hot water for 20 mins)
  • 1 ½ TeaspoonsMustard Seed
  • 1 1/2 TablespoonsUrad Dal
  • 1 1/2 TeaspoonsTurmeric Powder
  • 3Chillies Dried Red
  • 1Green Chillies
  • 1/4 TeaspoonAsafoetida
  • 2 SprigsCurry Leaves
  • 4 TablespoonsOil
  • 2 1/2 TablespoonsLemon Juice
  • to tasteSalt

  1. 1

    Wash Rice well. Bring a large pan of water to boil and add required amount of salt to it. Add rice and cook till its done.

    Drain rice and keep it aside.

  3. 3

    Heat oil in a large sauce pan.Splutter mustard and add chenna dal (soaked and drained) and urad dal.Fry it till golden.

  4. 4

    Add curry leaves,red chillies and green chillies.Saute for few minutes.

  5. 5

    Add turmeric powder and asafoetida and saute for 30 seconds on low-medium heat.

  6. 6

    Add rice to the above. Fried nuts can be added at this stage along with rice. Mix well.

  7. 7

    Add lemon juice and salt (if needed). Mix well and cook it for 2 minutes.
