Bring the lentils to the boil for 10 minutes, discard that water.

Lightly sauté the onion in some oil.

Add the tomato paste, the fresh tomato, the lentils, and enough water to just cover them.

Season with salt and pepper, add the garlic and bay leaves and allow to cook for 15-20 minutes, till thick.
