This cake is a 100 year old treasure. Discovered in an old McCall's cookbook published in 1910.

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour one 8 in. baking pan and set aside. I used a square pan.

In a large bowl sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Add butter, milk and vanilla. With mixer beat for two minutes, occasionally scraping down sides of bowl.

Add eggs and beat for two more minutes.

Pour batter into prepared pan(s), dividing equally if using two. Bake 30 to 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Remove from oven.

Cool in the pan for 10 minutes and then turn out to cooling rack, cool completely.

Frost with your favorite frosting. I used the chocolate frosting on the back of the Hersey's cocoa can.
