Ingredients

  1. 55 gramsdry brown rice per 1lb meat/poultry
  2. *OR*
  3. 50 gramsdry white rice per 1lb meat/poultry

  1. 1

    Cook your rice by packet instruction in a large pan of boiling water. The crumbs will keep well so don't be afraid to make more than you need

  2. 2

    *165g / 1 cup of dry brown rice will make enough crumbs to coat 3lbs of meat/poultry. Likewise 150g / 1 cup dry long grain white is enough for the same

  3. 3

    Preheat your oven to gas 1/2 (half) / 120C / 250°F and when the rice is cooked, spread it in a single layer onto a baking tray

  4. 4

    Bake for 20 minutes or so until dried then let cool

  5. 5

    Put the cooled rice into a blender or coffee grinder and grind it into a fine crumb consistency

  6. 6

    Store in a glass jar with a lid in a cool dark place or in the fridge

  7. 7

    Use in place of breadcrumbs in any recipe requiring them such as meatloaf, breaded fish fillets or chicken strips, stuffed mushrooms, a crust for a roast, stuffing etc

I really wanted to to make these rice crumbs but the cooking directions are very confusing. Could you please explain direction #3? I have no clue what you are saying. "Preheat your oven to gas" . My oven is gas. " 1/2 (half)" What does this mean? I understand the rest of the instructions. Basically, we are to cook the brown rice according to the instructions on the box or package it comes in & then spread it out on a baking sheet and cook it more at 250ºF for 20 minutes and then cool them before putting into blender. Correct? Pls help with the "gas" and "1/2" part and I'm all set! Tks!
