Budget-Friendly Dough for Pascualina Pies

Ever since I tried this recipe, I almost always make my own dough—except when I'm really short on time and buy it pre-made. This recipe makes a lot, so I can prepare several pies with just a few basic ingredients I always have at home. It's a very reliable and affordable dough. You can make several open-faced pies using just one crust each, which lets you make a variety of pies. This recipe makes enough for two pie crusts. I hope you find it useful.

Ingredients

  1. 2 cupsall-purpose flour (about 250 grams); you can also use self-rising flour
  2. 1/4 cupoil (about 60 ml)
  3. 1/4 cupboiling water (about 60 ml)
  4. Salt and paprika to taste

Steps

  1. 1

In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and paprika. I usually use all-purpose flour because I like the texture, but you can use self-rising flour if you prefer. The dough will be a bit more crumbly, but it still works well.

  2. 2

    Add the oil.

  3. 3

Finally, pour in the boiling water while mixing to form the dough. You may need to add a little more water depending on the flour and the size of your cup—adjust as needed.

  4. 4

Once everything is combined, shape the dough into a ball. If you're in a hurry, you can use it right away; otherwise, let it rest in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.

  5. 5

Divide the dough in half, roll it out, and use it as you would for any pie crust. This amount makes one large pascualina pie.

As a tip, I like to add sesame seeds to the dough. They toast nicely and add great flavor. Hope this helps!
