Food Wars - "Gotcha" Pork Roast

Abby Gewecke

This is my family's version of the fake pork roast created by Yukihira Soma in episode 1. It's still a work in progress, since we don't have all the same ingredients available nor the same level of cooking skill that Soma has, and we didn't have time to make the sauce (red wine, sake, soy sauce, and butter), but we'll slowly work on improving it. It tastes much better than you'd think - though you probably won't react as strongly as the real estate agent did when you eat it. ;)

Steps

1 hour 30 mins
  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 300°.

  2. 2

Heat water to a boil, then add in potato flakes and stir until thick.

  3. 3

Chop onion and sauté on high heat (about 400°) until golden brown.

  4. 4

Mix potatoes, onions, mushrooms, and dried rosemary together in a large bowl. Knead until thoroughly mixed.

  5. 5

Cover a large baking tray with parchment paper, then lay 2/3 of the bacon strips out on the tray, as closely as possible without overlapping.

  6. 6

Pile the entire potato mixture on top of the bacon, in the shape of a bread loaf, and wrap the bacon around it. Lay the remaining bacon on top and shape into a firm meat loaf.

  7. 7

Bake at 300° for 45 minutes to an hour, or until crispy.

  8. 8

    Slice and serve!
