heat oil over medium heat, add garlic and all seasonings except adobo and cook about 30 sec.

add vegetables and saute about 10 minutes, stir frequently

add broth, beans, sugar, and vinegar and bring to a boil

reduce heat and simmer about 15 minutes

remove bay leaf and garlic

sprinkle with adobo before serving

possible toppings for a change - crumbled bacon, cubed ham, raisins, toasted sunflower seeds, guacamole, bell pepper, shredded cheddar, sour cream
