preheat oven to 350

bring 1/2 gallon of salted water to a boil

add the rotini and cook until al dente about 8-10 min

drain and rinse with cold water

meanwhile heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat

add the onion and cook until soft and translucent about 4-5 minutes

add the garlic and cook 30 seconds more

add the mushrooms and cook 2 minutes more

remove the vegetables from the pan and set aside

add the beef to the hot skillet and season with salt and pepper

brown and drain the excess fat then add the veggies back

add the tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes

adjust the seasoning

in a casserole dish toss the rotini meat sauce and basil together

sprinkle with cheeses

bake until the cheese is bubbly and brown and the dish is thoroughly heated about 15-20 minutes
