Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease and flour 9" springform pan.

Sift all dry ingredients into a large bowl.

Beat butter in mixer bowl on medium speed until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in sugar, beat about 2 minutes. Beat in eggs, one at a time Beat in molasses and chocolate until smooth. Add dry ingredients alternately with the coffee. Scrape sides and bottom of mixer bowl to insure batter is well mixed. Pour into cake pan and bake until top springs back when lightly tapped, approximately 40 minutes. Remove from oven to coll on rack.

Make icing: in small heavy saucepan, combine 8 ounces of chocolate with 1/2 cup heavy cream. Over low heat, melt the chocolate; stir with a whisk while chocolate melts. Remove from heat. Pour icing on top of cooled cake and allow icing to drip over the side.
