Steps
- 1
Preparation:
- 2
Gather all ingredients. Use kale and mint to your liking. Kale lasts a bit longer than the rest of ingredients so I use more of it. (See replenishing)
- 3
Cut orange into slices or wedges. You can leave rind on. This will add flavor.
- 4
Cut cucumber in half. Take a spoon and run it the length of the cucumber and the seeds should pop right out. A harder cucumber is best since it will last longer.(see replenishing)
- 5
Chop kale or pick leaves apart to release it's natural water into the tap or filtered water.
- 6
Chop mint or pick leaves apart to release it's natural water into the tap or filtered water.
- 7
Combine all ingredients in 4 quart pitcher. Add water. Let fruits and herbs steep in water. (The amount of time you allow to steep is to taste. If you like less flavor steep less time. And vice versatile.)
- 8
You may also add sugar or honey.
- 9
Replenishing:
- 10
The kale and mint will take awhile to go bad since they are in crisp refrigerator water.
- 11
The orange and cucumber should either be taken out, or replaced when they are over ripe. (You do not want the taste of wilted fruits. This is your discretion. (See my preference)
- 12
My preference:
- 13
1/2 seeded cucumber, whole orange
- 14
Plenty of kale and mint. I like the earthy taste of the kale. Also the invigorating natural mint flavor.
- 15
When I drink the first couple glasses I add water each time to prolong the shelf life. Around a week later I start with fresh water, cucumber, and oranges. Two weeks later I start with fresh water and fresh mint. I then pull the orange and cucumber. I like fresh orange or cucumber at this time, but not both. After 3 weeks I would start fresh.
