Steps
- 1
Preheat oven - 375°F and grease a 9X13 baking pan with shortening.
- 2
For the dough, combine the 1 1/4 cup of brown sugar and butter flavored shortening in a bowl. Beat at medium speed and add in milk, 1 egg, and 1 tablespoon of vanilla.
- 3
Sift together the flour, salt and baking soda and gradually beat into the creamed mixture at low speed.
- 4
Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts with a spoon.
- 5
Spread half the mixture in the greased baking pan and bake for 8 minutes. Don't over bake!
- 6
The filling is the cream cheese, 2 eggs, 3/4 cup sugar and teaspoon of vanilla. Beat it until smooth and pour over the hot crust.
- 7
Roll the remaining dough out into a 9X13 rectangle between wax paper. Remove the top sheet and flip the dough onto the filling. Remove the other piece of wax paper.
- 8
Do not over bake! Bake for another 40 minutes until the top is set and a light golden brow.
- 9
Once done, allow to cool completely and then cut into bars and refridgerate.
- 10
You can substitute the chocolate chips for any flavor you like. White chocolate, butterscotch, or peanut butter chips. The same with the type of nut you use. Very yummy!
